Getting Started with Computer Skills Center: Home

Summary

Explore the fundamentals of computers, the internet, and popular software applications with the Computer Skills Center, a user-friendly eLearning platform from EBSCO LearningExpress that contains nearly 100 self-paced video tutorials.

Computer Skills Center can be accessed through any internet browser on your computer, mobile device, or tablet.

Signing In and Registering Your Account

  • Using a web browser, go to the Library's Computer Skills Center landing page and click the "Access Database" button.
  • On the Learning Express Library homepage, click on the "Sign In/Register" button in the upper righthand corner of the screen:

  • If this is your first time signing into the Computer Skills Center, you'll need to register a new account. Registrations only require a valid email address and password, and allows users to revisit practice tests, tutorials, eBooks, save their works in progress, and store score reports. Click on the "Register" button to begin:

  • Fill in the required fields on the registration page, then click "Register" at the bottom of the screen.
  • The next time you sign-in to the Computer Skills Center, you'll enter your email address as your "Username" and the password you enter during registration.
    • Tip: write down your username and password somewhere safe to remember them, save them to a browser password manager, or use a password manager app to help keep your username and passwords organized!

Navigating Computer Skills Center

  • To access the Computer Skills Center tutorials, click on the "Centers" button in the upper left hand corner of the screen, scroll down to "Computer Skills Center", and click on your subject (called "Categories" in Computer Skills Center) you are interested in:

  • Once you've clicked on a category, you can then browse all of the Computer Skills Center video courses, tutorials, and related resources.

Watching Courses and Completing Tutorials

  • Once you click on a topic, such as "Discover the Internet", you can see the available video courses and/or tutorials. Each video course will tell you the length of the video. Click on "Start Video" or "Start Tutorial" to begin:

  • If you exit out of a video course or tutorial before finishing, you can return by clicking "My Center" underneath your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Your Center will show you all of your in progress and completed tutorials and videos, and you can click on the titles to resume.
